FAM TRIPS OFFERED BY GRANDLUXE RAIL JOURNEYS
Rare Opportunity Rewards Travel Agents
Who Sell One Cabin on Mexico Itinerary
Evergreen, Colo.Travel agents who sell one cabin on GrandLuxe Rail Journeys’ “Mexico’s Copper Canyon” itinerary will earn a FAM trip on one of five 2009 GrandLuxe itineraries. The promotion runs through Sept. 30th.
GrandLuxe, America’s luxurious cruise by rail, is offering the promotion in order to draw attention and provide an incentive to travel agents to sell the Mexico trips, which run from Dec. 14th, 2008 through Feb. 14th, 2009. The promotion is a rare opportunity as FAM trips are scarce aboard the GrandLuxe Express, and are generally valued at $4,500 or more. Agents who sell one cabin, single or double occupancy, on the Mexico itinerary can choose a FAM trip berth in 2009 on one of the following seven-day itineraries: Antebellum South during March; Napa to Albuquerque during April; Albuquerque to the Seattle Area in July; Rockies, Sierras & Napa, September to November; or Mexico’s Copper Canyon, December 2009 to February 2010.
The promotion is open to all travel agents. Those booking groups will be eligible for one free FAM berth for each group sold. Travel agents who have already booked cabins on the Mexico itinerary will also be eligible. Agents will be asked to list their preferred itinerary and FAM trip awards will be announced 30 days in advance of the trip. Those who book their clients early will have the best selection of FAM trip dates. Airfare to and from the train and gratuities are not included. For more information, contact Tom Janaky at 720-837-8749 or Christa Patterson-Gibson at 1(800) 320-4206, ext. 319.
Considered one of the world’s most scenic rail journeys, Mexico’s Copper Canyon is a seven-day trip between centrally located Chihuahua and the famous oceanside town of Mazatlan. The journey immerses travelers in the rich, colorful culture of colonial Mexico and features a 6,550-foot descent through the Copper Canyon to the Pacific Ocean on a railroad that took more than 90 years to build.
Prices range from $5,070 per person for Vintage Pullman accommodations to $7,230 for the Grand Suite, and include all meals, guided tours and lectures, and a pianist in the Lounge Car. Early booking savings of $500 per couple for reservations made at least six months in advance are available. For information and reservations, visit www.GrandLuxeRail.com, call 1 (800) 320-4206, or consult a professional travel agent

MEXICO’S SPECTACULAR COPPER CANYON FEATURED IN GRANDLUXE RAIL JOURNEYS’
NEW SOUTH-OF-THE-BORDER ITINERARY
Evergreen, Colo. One of the world’s most scenic rail journeys highlights GrandLuxe Rail Journeys’ newest itinerary, “Mexico’s Copper Canyon.” The seven-day trip between centrally located Chihuahua and the famous oceanside town of Mazatlan is slated for winter 2008-2009. The journey will immerse travelers in the rich, colorful culture of colonial Mexico and expose them to some of the most stunning scenery south of the border.
The trip features a 6,550-foot descent (or ascent, on the northbound route) through the Copper Canyon to the Pacific Ocean on a railroad that took more than 90 years to build. Boasting 37 trestles and 86 tunnels, the railroad winds through a system of canyons more than four times as large as the United States’ Grand Canyon. Guests will experience sweeping views and dramatic changes in climate and vegetation. A geological discussion and entertaining lectures will punctuate the trip.
In addition to the unforgettable rail journey through the Copper Canyon, passengers will visit:
- Creel, Mexico, home of Cusarare Falls, the Jesuit Cusarare Mission which houses 18th century artist Miguel Correa’s restored oil paintings;
- The rim of Copper Canyon, where Tarahumara Indians, known for their brightly colored dress, will perform a dance demonstration;
- The colonial town of Alamos, where guests can enjoy a home and garden tour, or visit the old plaza, churches and haciendas;
- The Sea of Cortez, featuring a boat cruise to search for dolphins and sea lions, or a tour of a working saltwater pearl farm in nearby Guaymas;
- Los Mochis, where passengers can cruise on the Topolobampo Bay, visit a sugar plantation, tour botanical gardens and orchards, or enjoy bird watching on a river float trip; and
- Mazatlan, along the Pacific Ocean, which passengers can enjoy independently following their trip or before boarding, depending on their departure point.
“GrandLuxe is thrilled to add Mexico to its repertoire,” said GrandLuxe CEO Tom Rader. “The special thing about this trip is that while Mexico is such a popular tourist destination, not many people get to visit the Copper Canyon because it is virtually inaccessible except by rail. Now travelers have the opportunity to experience one of the world’s most magnificent sites from the comfort and safety of the GrandLuxe Express.”
“We are very excited to work with GrandLuxe Rail Journeys through the Copper Canyon,” said Rosalva Delgado, Tourism General Manager for Ferromex, which operates the Copper Canyon rail system. “We hope to enjoy a long and profitable business relationship.”
Southbound trips from Chihuahua are scheduled for Dec. 14th and 28th, 2008; Jan. 11th and 25th, 2009; and Feb. 8th, 2009. Northbound trips from Mazatlan are slated for Dec. 20, 2008; Jan. 3rd, 17th and 31st, 2009; and Feb. 14th, 2009.
Prices range from $5,070 per person for Vintage Pullman accommodations to $7,230 for the Grand Suite, and include all meals, guided tours and lectures, and a pianist in the Lounge Car. Early booking savings of $500 per couple for reservations made at least six months in advance are available. AMTRAK STATEMENT ON ASSOCIATED PRESS STORY
Washington, D.C.GrandLuxe Rail Journeys, a private luxury rail cruise company, has partnered with Amtrak to offer “GrandLuxe Limited” passenger rail service on select long-distance routes between November and January.
In order to promote the new service, GrandLuxe is offering members of Amtrak Guest Rewards a premium of up to $100 worth of beverages aboard GrandLuxe trains as an incentive to potential “GrandLuxe Limited” customers.
The beverage credit is being offered only aboard the “GrandLuxe Limited” sections of some Amtrak trains, a low-volume, luxurious train service on overnight trips for which Amtrak does not sell tickets and on which Amtrak provides no staff. On-board credit such as this marketing program is common in the cruise and hospitality industry.
A recent AP story has left the false impression the on-board credit is available to Amtrak passengers, when in fact it is only for “GrandLuxe Limited” passengers who are also Amtrak Guest Rewards members.
Unlike Amtrak passengers, who can be ticketed to intermediate stops, the “GrandLuxe Limited” passengers are ticketed for journeys of one or more nights and have premium and super-premium-priced beverage options on trips between Washington, D.C., and Florida and between Chicago and the East and West Coasts.

AMTRAK PARTNERS WITH GRANDLUXE TO OFFER LUXURY RAIL SERVICE
GrandLuxe attaches private train to Amtrak trains on three routes
Washington, D.C. and Evergreen, Colo.Beginning this fall, passengers traveling on select Amtrak routes will have the option of lingering over five-course dinners, sleeping in luxurious suites and enjoying personal butler service. The premium service is being made possible by a new partnership between GrandLuxe Rail Journeys, the country’s premier, private rail tour operator, and Amtrak, the national passenger rail service.
This is the first time in history that luxury accommodations have been offered on multiple Amtrak routes throughout the country.
Called GrandLuxe Limited, the new service uses a separate, private, seven-car luxury train attached to several regularly scheduled Amtrak trains. The GrandLuxe train, which features Dining, Lounge and Sleeping cars appointed with elegant vintage furnishings, will be occupied exclusively by GrandLuxe Limited passengers.
With over 90 departures starting in November and continuing through the holiday season into January 2008, GrandLuxe Limited will be available on three major Amtrak routes:
• Between Chicago and the San Francisco Bay Area, three days and two nights on the Amtrak
California Zephyr;
• Between Los Angeles and Chicago, three days and two nights on the Amtrak Southwest Chief; and
• Between Washington, D.C. and Miami, two days and one night on the Amtrak Silver Meteor.
Eight additional two-day, one-night departures will be offered on four special itineraries: Between Washington, D.C. and Chicago on the Amtrak Capitol Limited; Denver to the San Francisco Bay Area on the Amtrak California Zephyr; Denver to Chicago on the Amtrak California Zephyr; and Chicago to Albuquerque on the Amtrak Southwest Chief.
The unprecedented collaboration between Amtrak and GrandLuxe is an effort to increase ridership and introduce a new market to luxury train travel. GrandLuxe Limited offers two- and three-day itineraries at more affordable prices than traditional GrandLuxe tours, which cover broader itineraries of seven to 10 days.
“This partnership allows us to write a little history by bringing luxury train travel back to routes that have not experienced it in decades,” said GrandLuxe CEO Tom Rader. “It’s a winning situation for everyone. GrandLuxe will be able to introduce its product to a wider market, while Amtrak gains new marketing visibility. Most important, travelers now have many more options for the mode and manner in which they travel.”
“This is precisely the kind of joint venture with the private sector that is a good fit for us,” said Amtrak President and CEO Alex Kummant. “Amtrak provides facilities and operating expertise while GrandLuxe offers highly specialized train equipment and service, broadening the marketing appeal of both companies.”
The partnership between Amtrak and GrandLuxe is in keeping with Amtrak’s strategic initiative to explore ways to expand its business reach and find creative ways to increase revenues through innovative partnerships with the private sector. The arrangement provides revenue for both companies in the partnership.
Prices for GrandLuxe Limited range from $789 to $2,499 per person. For information, schedules and reservations aboard the GrandLuxe Limited, visit www.GrandLuxeRail.com or call 1 (800) 320-4206.

GRANDLUXE RAIL JOURNEYS WELCOMES NEW OWNERSHIP
GrandLuxe Holdings, LLC Purchases the Train Formerly Known as the American Orient Express
EVERGREEN, CO (May 30, 2006) The acquisition of GrandLuxe Rail Journeys (formerly the American Orient Express) by GrandLuxe Holdings, LLC was announced today by Thomas G. Rader, Chairman of GrandLuxe Holdings. Regarded as America’s premier private rail operator, GrandLuxe Rail Journeys was purchased from Oregon Rail Holdings, of Portland, Ore. Rader, a veteran of the rail and tour industry, also founded Colorado Railcar Manufacturing, which builds luxury passenger railcars for which he has been awarded a number of U.S. and Canadian patents. However, the two companies are mutually exclusive operations.
As the result of strategic re-branding, and to end confusion in the marketplace between this uniquely American rail tour product and the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, the American Orient Express was re-named GrandLuxe Rail Journeys this April.
In addition to the new name and ownership, GrandLuxe Rail Journeys will unveil a new 2007 tour schedule later this month, and operations have been consolidated in Evergreen, Colorado.
GrandLuxe Holdings’ Chairman Rader has more than 30 years experience in the tourism and rail industries, including the founding of Tour Alaska, Inc., a tour company that provided the first private dome railcar trips through the interior of Alaska, which achieved annual sales of $29 million in 1986 when Rader sold the company to Princess Cruises and Princess Tours after just four seasons of operations.
Noted for its exceptional service, outstanding cuisine and deluxe, vintage furnishings, GrandLuxe Rail Journeys offers once-in-a-lifetime experiences aboard North America’s premier private train, operating year-round on regional, six to nine-night itineraries. GrandLuxe’s programs include: National Parks of the West, The Great Northwest & Rockies, Grand Trans-Canada Rail Journey, and Rockies, Sierras & Napa. For more information, or to request a brochure, please visit www.GrandLuxeRail.com or call 1 (800) 320-4206.

AMERICAN ORIENT EXPRESS HAS A NEW NAME...
GRANDLUXE RAIL JOURNEYS
DOWNERS GROVE, IL (April 18, 2006) American Orient Express, long recognized as America’s premier private train, is debuting a new name: GrandLuxe Rail Journeys. The name, which is effective immediately, is being introduced in an effort to better communicate the luxury product offered. GrandLuxe Rail Journeys’ itineraries, which are often a week long, are very different from the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express’ two-day tours, yet the similar company names did not communicate these differences to the marketplace. The new name, GrandLuxe Rail Journeys, will help better distinguish the unique, in-depth, experiential journeys through the United States and Canada.
Although the name may have changed, GrandLuxe Rail Journeys will continue to deliver the same friendly, outstanding service for which it is known. As the company is the same, the same employees will continue delivering the onboard product. And all passengers that have already booked tours will also be unaffected by this change.
GrandLuxe Rail Journeys will continue to operate all itineraries advertised with departures through October 2006. In addition, GrandLuxe Rail Journeys will educate the public and travel professionals about the new name and new itinerary through seminars, trade shows, and advertising.
Noted for its exceptional service, outstanding cuisine and deluxe, vintage furnishings, GrandLuxe Rail Journeys offers once-in-a-lifetime experiences aboard North America’s premier train, operating year-round on regional, three to nine-night itineraries. GrandLuxe’s programs include: National Parks of the West, The Great Northwest & Rockies, Grand Trans-Canada Rail Journey. For more information, or to request a brochure, please visit www.GrandLuxeRail.com or call 1 (800) 320-4206.

AUTHORS & EXPERTS LECTURE, ENTERTAIN & ENLIGHTEN GUESTS
ABOARD AMERICAN ORIENT EXPRESS PROGRAMS
Downers Grove, IL According to Smithsonian Magazine-sponsored research on “cultural travelers,” 118 million “cultural travelers” comprise 81% of domestic leisure travel activity. These travelers seek to delve into a region’s history, anthropology, to experience the roots of its civilization, its festivals and events, and more.
American Orient Express (AOE) purveyor of deluxe American rail vacations has, since 1995, committed to imparting the most significant cultural and historical aspects of an itinerary’s offerings to their guests across the landscape of the United States and Canada. AOE is much more than vintage rail transportation. AOE itineraries include participation by experts and regional guides who join passengers as they partake in excursions through America’s most awe-inspiring and cultural landmarks. Plus, onboard lecturers -- including renowned authors, historians, professors and producers of televised documentaries -- provide further insight into the destinations explored while journeying through the countryside. So passengers come away with a true sense of self-enrichment of the destinations encountered.
Lecturers on 2005 itineraries included:
Wayne Ranney: Wayne has worked around the world as a geologic interpreter aboard ships, jets, and other natural history expeditions. This work has taken him to Antarctica (26 times), the Amazon, the Canadian Arctic and Greenland, the Russian Far East, and the North and South Poles. He is an Adjunct Faculty member at Yavapai College in Prescott, Arizona where he teaches very popular classes on southwestern geology. Wayne is the author of numerous articles for Arizona Highways, Sedona Magazine, and Earth. He has written three books, two of which were published in MNA's Plateau magazine, The Verde Valley: A Geological History and Canyon Country. His most recent book is Sedona Through Time: Geology of the Red Rocks. Wayne still makes Flagstaff his home and enjoys traveling, hiking, river running, photography, and anything that allows him to get outside in the Arizona countryside. Wayne frequently lectures aboard AOE’s Coastal Culinary Explorer, The Great Northwest & Rockies, National Parks of the West, and Transcontinental itineraries.
James Porterfield: James is an author and columnist with a special interest on passenger railroading. His book Dining by Rail, The History and the Recipes from America’s Golden Age of Railroad Cuisine, a history of eating on trains accompanied by 330 recipes, has been praised by food writers and rail historians alike. Mr. Porterfield is a host for Penn State Altoona's Railroad Heritage Conference each June and for the Railroads in Motion Film Festival each summer. A graduate of Edinboro State College University, he is an adjunct professor of marketing at Penn State University's main campus. He lectures aboard certain dates of the Coastal Culinary Adventure, The Great Northwest & Rockies, and Transcontinental itineraries.
Robert Krick: Robert was born in California, and has been responsible for the preservation of several battlefields in Virginia for more than 30 years. He is the author of a dozen books and more than one hundred published articles. His Stonewall Jackson at Cedar Mountain won the Douglas Southall Freeman Award for Best Book in Southern History. He lectures aboard the Antebellum South-Civil War itinerary.
Jim Garry: Jim began his career as a naturalist studying falcons, but soon became more interested in the people of the west. He now works as a free-lance lecturer, writer, and filmmaker, teaching others about our western heritage. A popular study leader, Jim led Associates on other tours in the west, including "Along the Bozeman Trail, " "Lewis and Clark Trail," "Old West: Black Hills to the Tetons" and "Cowboys and Outlaws." Jim is an avid rider and cowboy and is fond of telling stories. He lectures aboard select routings of the National Parks of the West and The Great Northwest & Rockies programs.
Michael DiGiorgio: Michael is a nationally recognized artist who is currently living in Madison, Connecticut. Mikes paintings and drawings have appeared in a variety if nature books and journals such as Master's Guide to Birding, Bird Watchers Digest and Audubon Magazine. In addition to painting, Mike is actively involved in teaching nature painting and art courses at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. He lectures aboard a selection of Antebellum South and National Parks of the West programs.
The American Orient Express (AOE) is North America's premier private train, providing deluxe rail vacations. "In operation since 1997, AOE offers eight regional itineraries, ranging from four to ten days, throughout the United States and Canada". "Noted for its exceptional service, fine dining and elegant furnishings and appointments, AOE has brought a return to the unhurried and graceful Golden Age of rail travel." EXPERIENCE THE ‘GOLDEN AGE OF RAIL’ ABOARD NORTH AMERICA’S
PREMIERE, DELUXE TRAIN
Not too long ago, the Golden Age of Rail was lost to history. Gone were the sleek, gleaming trains of the 1940s and ‘50s that featured elegant, wood-paneled compartments, where travelers relaxed as they watched the changing scenery from their windows. And, gone was the camaraderie of new-found friends in the well-appointed club car and the unique experience of fine dining with linens, china and silver while enjoying the gentle sway of the dining car.
But that’s all changed. Today, the Golden Age of Rail flourishes once more on the American Orient Express (AOE) a monument to a gentler, less hectic way of life. Aboard the AOE, travelers return to a bygone era with all the comfort and convenience of the 21st century.
The 17-carriage train, restored at a cost of over $15 million, is the picture of elegance and luxury. The stylish appointments include polished brass in the sleeping cars, inlaid mahogany paneling in the dining cars, and ebony, brass and leather in the club cars. A symbol of the AOE’s commitment to providing an authentic experience, even the tiniest details have not been overlooked. Aboard the Seattle Club Car, an indigo ceiling reminiscent of the twilight sky is strewn with 23-karat gold stars.
The AOE rolls into a variety of picturesque regions throughout the United States and Canada when landscapes are at their season’s peak. Eight regional itineraries offer travelers a wide choice of venues, including the opportunity on some routes to travel over tracks that have not seen passenger trains in more than a half-century. These tracks, called “rare mileage” by rail fans, cover some of the most scenic wilderness areas of the United States and Canada, many of them accessible only by rail.
Much like a voyage upon a luxurious cruise ship, getting there is half the fun. This notion also applies to an AOE rail cruise. Bringing the new concept of “rail cruising” to life, a trip aboard the AOE isn’t just transportation it’s an experiential journey, with the train serving as hotel, restaurant and entertainment all wrapped up into one all-inclusive travel experience.
Travelers enjoy time off the train on specially organized day excursions that explore significant historical, geological and natural points of interest along the way. Included in the cost of the trip, these excursions take passengers to visit many interesting sites, including a renowned winery in California’s Napa Valley, the South Rim of the majestic Grand Canyon National Park, or a historic, Antebellum plantation in the South. These carefully planned land tours, accompanied by regional tour guides, naturalists and historians, add dimension to the core experience of traveling aboard the AOE.
Gourmet meals, featuring multiple entrée selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner, are prepared to-order by classically trained chefs in fully appointed galleys. Fine wines are available in the club cars, with complimentary selections at dinner. A pianist provides music during the cocktail hour, which features complimentary hors d’oeuvres, as historians and lecturers present in-depth background on the route being traveled.
AOE offers five types of traditional compartments on board: Vintage Pullman, Single Sleeper, Parlor Suite, Classic Presidential and Grand Suite. During the day, lower berths convert into a comfortable day chair or sofa seat. Cabins have large picture windows and individual controls for air-conditioning and heat. All cabins feature a private toilet and washbasin. The larger suites offer a private shower compartment in the cabin, while each of the smaller cabins offer a comfortable shower room located down the hall. Plush terry robes are provided for travelers’ use.
Package prices start at $1,695 per person, double occupancy and vary according to length of trip, itinerary and compartment selection. They include most meals, onboard accommodations, excursions, entertainment and some nights in a hotel as necessary.
Noted for its exceptional service, outstanding cuisine, and deluxe, vintage furnishings, AOE is North America's only private vintage train, operating year-round on regional, three to nine-night itineraries throughout the United States and Canada. For more information and reservations call 1 (800) 320-4206, or visit www.AmericanOrientExpress.com.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: How long has American Orient Express been in business?
A: The AOE has been in operation since 1997. A private company, the American Orient Express operates independently of Amtrak and the various North American rail lines, but works closely with these companies for locomotive power and access to scenic routes throughout the United States and Canada.
Q: Is the American Orient Express affiliated with the Venice-Simpleon Orient Express or any other international or domestic rail companies with similar names?
A: The American Orient Express is not affiliated with VSOE or any other rail company. There are several companies that carry Orient Express within their brands. The original Orient Express brand name is owned by SNCF of France. This root name along with individual and unique lead names have been used by the following independent companies for years: American Orient Express, Venice-Simplon Orient Express, Southern Orient Express and Nostalgic Orient Express.
Q: How large are the cabins, and how much luggage should I bring?
A: Our cabins range from the original Pullman Car upper-and-lower bed accommodations to our Grand and Classic Presidential Suites, which are larger cabins and appointed with showers and lower beds (all cabins are appointed with private sink and water closet). Closet and storage space is limited; therefore, a modest amount of clothing is sufficient. We recommend one medium-sized bag and a small carry-on. Soft-sided luggage is strongly encouraged for storing purposes.
Q: What do I wear while on board the train?
A: Both day and evening attire is casual. In other words, pack comfortable clothes and walking shoes. For safety reasons, open toed shoes and high heels are not recommended. Dresses and jackets are not required at dinner; however, some passengers prefer to "dress-up" in the evening.
Q: What will the weather be like while on tour?
A: We make a point to travel through regions when the weather is mild. During the early and late periods of certain seasons, a coat may be handy.
Q: Kitchens on trains are small. How do you prepare such exquisite gourmet meals?
A: In the tradition of the great streamliner trains, the American Orient Express has given much consideration to menu preparation and presentation. The logistics of maintaining a fine quality dining experience for up to 120 passengers daily presents specific challenges for the chefs, but they pull it off exquisitely. They are masters of innovation and what is served a plate garnish one day might be utilized in a soup, chutney or glaze the next. Each culinary staff member functions in multiple capacities and roles. With a kitchen that, at times, travels the tracks at speeds of up to 80 miles per hour, the culinary staff may find themselves performing amazing feats of balance and precision. Remarkably small in size, the fully appointed stainless-steel kitchens aboard the train can be found buzzing with activity well before dawn and into the late-evening hours, preparing as many as 400 meals a day.
Q: What type of entertainment is provided on board?
A: We consider the great scenery of the United States as the best possible form of entertainment, but we also have an accomplished pianist on board who performs an extensive repertoire of background music and sing-along tunes. All trips also feature experienced tour lecturers.
Q: What is the recommended gratuity for the staff?
A: Aboard the American Orient Express, the gratuities received are pooled and distributed, by a formula, among the service staff. Although tipping is very much a personal choice, passengers frequently ask for general guidelines. We find that on average each passenger provides $15 per day gratuity for the staff as a whole.
Q: Is the train wheelchair-accessible?
A: The American Orient Express was refurbished before the American Disabilities Act; and therefore, it does not comply with ADA standards. Certain safety regulations affecting the design of the train may cause difficulty for persons with limited mobility. The carriages cannot accommodate wheelchairs or most walkers. The hallways in the sleeping carriages are 23 inches wide, and doorways leading into the cabins are 18 inches wide.
Q: Is smoking allowed on board?
A: The American Orient Express is a smoke-free train. However, smoking is permitted in the open-air vestibules between select cars.
Q: Do cabins have bathrooms in them?
A: All cabins feature a private toilet and basin. Both the Grand and Classic Presidential Suites also feature a private shower. Each sleeping car offers a comfortable shower room located at the end of the hall.
Q: How can one become a member of the Golden Rail Club?
A: Once passengers have traveled aboard the AOE, they automatically become members of the Golden Rail Club. This membership affords special savings, added-value and unique experiences on future AOE tour packages. A few of the value-added features of the Golden Rail Club include a $300 per person savings, which can be combined with the Early Booking Discount for even greater savings, a 10-percent savings on on-board purchases including liquor and souvenirs, and an additional $100 per person savings per rail journey for each family member or friend that books and travels with them on the AOE.
Q: Are children allowed onboard?
A: We welcome children, ages 8 and older, on board the train. Children, ages 8-12, will receive a 50% discount off the published fares, when sharing a cabin with two full fare adults. A 25% discount, off the published fare, will be given to children 8-12 if sharing a cabin with one full fare adult.
Q: Are all meals included?
A: Most meals are included in the cost of the package. Meals that are included are noted at the end of each day’s itinerary. (B = Breakfast, L = Lunch, D = Dinner).
Q: Are special diet entrees available?
A: In order that we may do all that is possible to accommodate your request, special diets should be specified either at the time of booking or on the Personal and Health Information Forms included in the Preliminary Document Package mailed prior to travel.
Q: Are pets allowed onboard?
A: No pets or animals are permitted on board the train.
Q: What happens if I need to cancel my trip?
A: Deposits are refundable, less a $250 per person cancellation fee, until 60 days prior to departure. Less than 60 days prior to departure, no refunds can be made (including, but not limited to, additional components such as hotel nights, airfare and optional tours). American Orient Express highly recommends trip insurance coverage for its passengers.
Q: What is included in the price?
A: First day welcome orientation • introductions and briefing • nights on board the American Orient Express • farewell reception on the train • all meals as described in the brochure • soft drinks on board the train • all excursions and other group activities as described in the brochure • complete program of lectures and presentations • qualified tour managers throughout the trip • baggage handling • gratuities to local guides, escorts and drivers • amenities package • live entertainment on train
Q: What isn’t included in the price?
A: Airfare and taxes • accident / baggage / cancellation insurance • airport or hotel transfers • personal expenses such as laundry, telephone, fax charges and taxis • liquor • traditional gratuities to train staff
Q: How can I make reservations?
A: To reserve your place on an American Orient Express program, please contact your travel agent or call toll-free 1 (800) 320-4206. A deposit of $500 per person is required within 7 days of making your reservation. Please make checks payable to American Orient Express and indicate your trip name, departure date and reservation number. AOE also accepts all major credit cards.

STORY IDEAS
EXPERIENCE THE "GOLDEN ERA" OF RAIL TRAVEL
Experience the service, comfort, fine dining and spectacular scenery as it was enjoyed during a simpler time, aboard America’s premier streamliner train the American Orient Express (AOE). Planned itineraries travel to the United States and Canada’s great historical landmarks and geological wonders, some of which are only accessible by rail, over “rare mileage” tracks that have not seen passenger trains in more than a half-century.
A NEW TRAVEL TREND: "RAIL CRUISING"
During the 20th century, ocean cruising was primarily the domain of the wealthy, older traveler. Today, however, the billion-dollar cruise industry is enjoyed by all ages of the massive middle class. An experience that is being likened to the ocean cruises of yesteryear, deluxe rail operators such as AOE now offer savvy travelers (primarily affluent matures), incomparable vacations aboard private, vintage trains. AOE’s rail cruises maintain a sense of exclusivity with only 120 passengers aboard any given itinerary, while simultaneously indulging customers with highly personalized service, an epicurean adventure, exciting itineraries and carefully planned land tours, all topped off with the glamour and romance of a bygone era.
GOURMET REGIONAL CUISINE
Since 1868, a visit to the dining car has been a high point of any rail trip. Today, AOE continues that tradition with extraordinary menu selections prepared from the finest regional specialties, served in an elegant atmosphere utilizing fine china, crystal, silver and table linens. Chefs d’cuisine hail from top culinary programs and leading restaurants, ensuring epicurean pleasures of the highest order.
VINTAGE RAIL CARS
The AOE is an important piece of American history from the Golden Age of Rail. Ranging in age, each car was in service during the 1940s and 50s streamliner era on some of the nation’s most memorable railroads. For example, the New York Observation Car was dedicated in 1948 by Dwight Eisenhower and served 20 years on the New York Central’s famous 20th Century Limited. Today, each car has been completely restored, featuring new air-conditioning, heating, electrical and plumbing systems, and state-of-the-art safety features, as well as completely renovated interiors. Total cost of the restoration project was over $15 million.
ELEGANT TOUCHES
The 17-carriage train is the picture of elegance, with lavish attention to detail in the warm, rich tones of the woods, beautiful inlaid surfaces of marble, appointments of polished brass and over-stuffed lounge chairs. To complement the vintage surroundings, a classically-trained service staff caters to passengers’ every need.
A KINDER, GENTLER WAY OF LIFE
The AOE takes passengers back to a time when the journey was as enjoyable as the final destination. Passengers engaged in interesting conversations and relaxed in the lounge cars as the beauty of nature drifted by. Train travel affords a relaxing environment en route that allows for socialization with fellow passengers, fabulous dining, ever-changing scenery, private sleeping/ bathroom accommodations, unparalleled service and much more.
WHAT A VIEW!
Reflect on the great historical landmarks and geological wonders of this great continent as roaming wildlife, cascading waterfalls, majestic mountains, city skylines, powerful rivers, rural towns and much more go gliding by. In 2002, AOE passengers were the first to experience the “Dome Car.” Constructed in the 1950s, dome cars were a luxurious feature that afforded passengers an incomparable view of the countryside as never before seen by train. Today, the AOE is proud to have revived two of these cars. Each seats 72 people in an upper-level glass enclosure featuring a 360-degree view of the surrounding countryside.
THE ART OF AOE
Symbolizing AOE’s commitment to providing an authentic vintage rail experience, even the tiniest artistic details have not been overlooked. For example, upon exploration of the Rocky Mountain Club Car, passengers are pleasantly surprised to discover a remarkable example of artistry right above their heads a midnight blue sky featuring the Milky Way rendered in gold leaf. And, while just as beautiful, the Seattle Club Car features its own artistry an indigo ceiling reminiscent of the twilight sky, showing clouds on the horizon aglow with the last light of day, strewn with 23-karat gold stars.

HISTORY OF THE AMERICAN ORIENT EXPRESS
The American Orient Express gets its roots from the original concept of a deluxe business train that linked Chicago with Washington D.C. The vision was to offer the train to business executives as an alternative to cramped airline seats and long lines at ticket windows. This train was the American European Express (AEE), and even though its rail cars were masterfully restored at great expense, the marketing plan never took off. As a result, the operation closed after less than a year.
It didn’t take long for the owners to rethink their marketing strategy, within five months (March 1991) the AEE was operating again as a passenger train offering vacationers a deluxe journey from Chica | | |
